D23 returned to Anaheim from 14th to 16th August 2026, bringing Disney, Pixar, Marvel, Star Wars and Disney Parks together for three days of announcements, first looks and major reveals.

While there were plenty of smaller updates across the convention, the biggest news centred around the next generation of Disney entertainment and the company’s increasingly ambitious plans for its theme parks. From the new X-Men cast and Avengers: Doomsday to Frozen 3, Kingdom Hearts IV and a whole host of new attractions, D23 offered a glimpse at where Disney is heading over the next several years.

Here’s everything you need to know from the event, with the biggest announcements broken out so each can be explored in more detail.

Marvel

Marvel delivered arguably the biggest entertainment news of the weekend, finally revealing the main cast for its upcoming X-Men film.

Sadie Sink will play Jean Grey, Kit Connor is Cyclops, Samara Weaving is Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette is Rogue, Maya Boyd is Storm, Christopher Abbott is Professor X and Adam Driver is Mister Sinister. The film is being directed by Jake Schreier and is currently scheduled for May 2028.

Marvel also showcased Avengers: Doomsday, with footage teasing the enormous crossover between the Avengers, Fantastic Four and X-Men. Robert Downey Jr. returns to the MCU as Doctor Doom, while Chris Evans is back as Steve Rogers. The film arrives in cinemas in December 2026.

On Disney+, VisionQuest received a release date of 14th October 2026, bringing Paul Bettany’s Vision and James Spader’s Ultron back together in the next chapter of the WandaVision storyline.

Star Wars

Star Wars had two major stories at D23. Ahsoka Season 2 received a new trailer, giving fans a look at the next chapter of Ahsoka Tano’s story and the continuing threat posed by Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Ryan Gosling also took the stage to promote Star Wars: Starfighter. Set in a previously unexplored period of the Star Wars timeline, the film stars Gosling as Kade Auberon and is scheduled for May 2027.

Pixar

Pixar had a particularly strong showing, confirming several major sequels.

Incredibles 3 was officially announced for summer 2028, while Coco 2 is coming in November 2029. The latter will see Miguel return as a teenager, with Ernesto de la Cruz once again becoming part of the story.

Pixar also showcased upcoming original projects including Ghost Market and Gatto, demonstrating that the studio is continuing to develop new worlds alongside its established franchises.

Disney Animation

Frozen 3 was one of the headline announcements of the entire convention.

Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel and Josh Gad appeared at D23 and performed new music from the film, while Disney revealed that Anna and Kristoff’s wedding will form part of the story. Elsa will also embark on a mysterious journey involving a new threat. Frozen 3 arrives on 24th November 2027, with Frozen 4 already in development.

Disney also confirmed that Zootopia 3 is in early development, following the huge success of the franchise.

Live-action Disney

Disney showed the first look at its upcoming live-action Tangled, with Teagan Croft as Rapunzel, Milo Manheim as Flynn Rider and Kathryn Hahn as Mother Gothel. The film is currently scheduled for March 2028.

The Princess Diaries 3 also received an update, with Anne Hathaway appearing at D23 as Disney continues to develop the long-awaited sequel.

Bluey

One of the most anticipated family announcements was the first look at The Bluey Movie.

The feature-length film is being made with Ludo Studio and BBC Studios and is scheduled to arrive in August 2027. Bluey, Bingo, Bandit and Chilli will all make the jump from television to the big screen.

Kingdom Hearts

Kingdom Hearts IV received a major showcase, with Disney and Square Enix showing new footage from the long-awaited game.

The footage included the previously revealed world of Quadratum as well as a new world based on Pixar’s Coco. Disney also confirmed that an animated Kingdom Hearts series is in development for Disney Channel and Disney+.

Disney Parks

The Disney Experiences Showcase was packed with announcements across Walt Disney World, Disneyland, Disneyland Paris and Tokyo Disneyland.

At Walt Disney World, Disney revealed the full vision for Villains Land at Magic Kingdom. The land will be home to two major attractions, including a high-speed Maleficent-inspired roller coaster and a darker boat attraction taking guests into the world of Disney’s villains. The land will feature characters including Maleficent, the Evil Queen, Ursula, Scar, Jafar, Cruella de Vil, Dr Facilier, Yzma, Gaston, Hades and Chernabog.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios will also receive Monstropolis, a new Monsters, Inc.-themed land opening in 2027. Its centrepiece will be Disney’s first suspended roller coaster, inspired by the famous door vault from the film.

At Animal Kingdom, the new Tropical Americas land is taking shape with two major attractions: an Encanto ride inside Casa Madrigal and Indiana Jones and the Myth of the Jade Serpent. Harrison Ford’s likeness will be used for the Indiana Jones animatronic, making the announcement one of the more surprising moments of the showcase.

Disneyland is also preparing for a major transformation. Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will double in size with Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab, both scheduled for 2028. Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Anthony Mackie, Jeremy Renner and Brie Larson will reprise their MCU roles for the attractions.

Disneyland’s Tomorrowland will also be reimagined with new attractions and more open space as the resort prepares for its 75th anniversary in 2030.

Beyond the US parks, Disneyland Paris revealed further details on its continuing transformation, including The Lion King-themed attraction and the next chapter for Space Mountain.

Tokyo Disneyland is also getting a new Wreck-It Ralph attraction, alongside further work on Space Mountain: Earthrise.

Disney Legends

D23 2026 concluded with the Disney Legends ceremony, honouring 11 new Legends.

The class included Anne Hathaway, Bob Iger, Dwayne Johnson, the Jonas Brothers, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Alan Tudyk, Susan Egan, Eric Goldberg, Kim Irvine, Jerry Bruckheimer and Chris Berman.

The bigger picture

D23 2026 wasn’t dominated by one single announcement. Instead, it demonstrated just how broad Disney’s upcoming slate has become.

Marvel is building towards the X-Men and Avengers era. Pixar is leaning into major franchises with Incredibles 3 and Coco 2 while continuing to develop original films. Disney Animation is expanding Frozen and Zootopia, while Star Wars is exploring new corners of the galaxy.

Meanwhile, Disney Parks are undergoing some of their most significant expansions in years, from Villains Land and Monstropolis at Walt Disney World to the Avengers Campus expansion at Disneyland and The Lion King at Disneyland Paris.

For Disney fans, the most important thing to come out of D23 may therefore be the sheer scale of what is coming next. There are major releases and new experiences stretching across the rest of the 2020s and well into the 2030s, giving Disney plenty of stories to tell and plenty more announcements still to come.
