D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event returned to Anaheim from 14th to 16th August 2026, and for Disneyland Resort fans, the weekend delivered a much clearer picture of what the future of the resort could look like.

The biggest announcements were concentrated in the Saturday evening Horizons: A Carousel of Progress presentation at the Honda Center, where Disney Experiences Chairman Thomas Mazloum and the Imagineering team unveiled new details for Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure. Across the weekend, Disney also showcased models, concept art and additional information that helped flesh out several projects that have been discussed for years.

For Disneyland Resort, the message from D23 was particularly significant. Disney is now looking beyond individual attractions and towards a broader reshaping of both parks, with Tomorrowland finally receiving a major reimagining, Avengers Campus expanding substantially, a new Coco attraction taking shape at Disney California Adventure, and several beloved entertainment offerings returning in 2027.

Tomorrowland is finally being reimagined

Perhaps the biggest surprise for Disneyland Park was the confirmation that Tomorrowland is going to be reimagined.

Disney has acknowledged for years that the land needs attention, and at D23 the company finally confirmed that Walt Disney Imagineering is working on a comprehensive transformation. The announcement was deliberately light on specifics, with Disney stopping short of revealing which attractions will remain, which may change, or exactly when construction will begin.

What Disney did make clear is that this will be more than a simple refurbishment. The announcement comes at an important moment for Tomorrowland. The land still contains some of Disneyland’s most recognisable attractions, including Space Mountain, Star Tours and Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, but it has also accumulated a mixture of older concepts, temporary overlays and areas that no longer fit neatly with the futuristic vision that Tomorrowland was originally intended to represent.

Disney’s announcement suggests that Imagineering now has an opportunity to rethink how the entire land works as a cohesive experience. The company has not yet announced a timeline or a final attraction lineup, meaning there is still plenty that remains unknown. For now, however, one thing is official: Tomorrowland’s next chapter is being planned.

Coco attraction gets major new details

Over at Disney California Adventure, one of the most anticipated future attractions received its biggest update yet. Disney revealed new details for the upcoming Coco attraction, including confirmation that the ride will be a boat-based attraction. The story will take place after the events of Pixar’s Coco, allowing Miguel and his family to continue their adventures while giving Imagineering an opportunity to explore the Land of the Dead in a major new way.

The attraction is expected to combine physical sets, Audio-Animatronics and modern ride technology to bring Miguel’s world to life. Importantly for families, Disney has indicated that the attraction will have no height requirement, making it accessible to a much wider range of Disneyland guests.

At the Imagineering: Horizons pavilion, D23 attendees were also able to see a new queue rendering and a sculpt of Hector, providing a more tangible glimpse at how the project is progressing. Disney has not yet announced an opening date, so Coco remains one of the resort’s longer-term projects. Nevertheless, the D23 presentation moved it from an exciting concept towards something that is beginning to feel much more real.

Avengers Campus is getting much bigger

Marvel fans also had plenty to celebrate. Disney confirmed that the expansion of Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure will bring two major attractions: Avengers Infinity Defense and Stark Flight Lab.

Both attractions are scheduled to open in 2028. The expansion is expected to approximately double the size of Avengers Campus, significantly increasing the footprint of Marvel storytelling at Disneyland Resort. Avengers Infinity Defense will take guests into an action-packed adventure involving the Avengers and locations across the Marvel universe, while Stark Flight Lab will put guests into an experience created by Tony Stark himself.

The two attractions have been known for some time, but D23 provided a much clearer indication of the scale of the project and its importance to the future of Disney California Adventure. For a park that has increasingly leaned into large-scale intellectual properties, doubling the size of Avengers Campus represents one of the most substantial additions coming to the resort.

New Avengers Campus models offer a glimpse of what is coming

The Imagineering pavilion at D23 went beyond the presentation itself. Fans could see a model of the future Avengers Campus expansion, along with additional artwork and design material for the new attractions.

These physical models are particularly useful because they begin to show how the new attractions will fit into the existing campus rather than simply presenting them as isolated rides. Disney has also been emphasising the idea that Avengers Campus will become a larger environment rather than merely an area containing several Marvel attractions.

With a 2028 opening target now attached to both major rides, guests should expect the coming years to bring increasingly detailed construction updates.

Beloved Disneyland entertainment is returning in 2027

Not all of the Disneyland news from D23 was about construction.

Some of the loudest cheers were reserved for the return of familiar entertainment. Disney confirmed that “Remember… Dreams Come True” will return to Disneyland Park in February 2027.

The beloved fireworks spectacular will return with an updated presentation, including projections extending beyond Sleeping Beauty Castle. Disney specifically highlighted new projection elements along Rivers of America, the facade of “it’s a small world” and Main Street, U.S.A.

That means the show will once again have the potential to transform a much larger portion of Disneyland into part of the nighttime spectacle. For longtime Disneyland fans, the return is particularly meaningful because “Remember… Dreams Come True” has become one of the resort’s most recognisable fireworks shows.

The original World of Color is coming back

Disney California Adventure is also getting a major entertainment comeback. An updated version of the original “World of Color” will return in February 2027.

The new version will draw from stories including The Little Mermaid, The Lion King, Finding Nemo and Toy Story, while also incorporating a special arrangement of the theme associated with Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color.

The return gives Disney California Adventure a chance to reconnect with the show’s original identity while still refreshing it for a new generation. For guests who remember the original World of Color, this could become one of the most anticipated entertainment changes at the resort in 2027.

Magic Happens returns in summer 2027

Another fan favourite is coming back. “Magic Happens” will return to Disneyland in summer 2027. The parade originally debuted in 2020 just before the Disneyland Resort closure, meaning its original run was dramatically cut short. Its return therefore carries a particular sense of unfinished business for many Disneyland fans.

Bringing Magic Happens back gives Disneyland another major daytime entertainment offering alongside the return of “Remember… Dreams Come True” at night. Taken together, the 2027 entertainment announcements point towards a particularly nostalgic year for Disneyland.

D23 also showed that Disney is listening to Disneyland fans

Perhaps the most interesting development surrounding Disneyland at this year’s D23 was not a particular attraction, but the tone of Disney’s announcements.

The Tomorrowland announcement in particular reflects years of discussion among Disneyland fans about the condition and identity of the land. Disney has increasingly talked about listening to guest feedback, and Thomas Mazloum’s first D23 as Chairman of Disney Experiences reinforced that message. That does not mean every fan request will become reality. It does, however, suggest that Disneyland’s future is being shaped with considerably more attention being paid to the emotional connection guests have with the resort’s history.

One of the more complicated pieces of Disneyland Resort news surrounding D23 concerns the planned Avatar experience at Disney California Adventure.

Disney had previously announced an Avatar attraction for the area currently occupied by the Monsters, Inc. attraction in Hollywood Land. At D23, however, the project did not receive the kind of progress announcement many fans had been expecting.

Instead, attention shifted towards the Tomorrowland reimagining, the Avengers Campus expansion and the Coco attraction. Reporting following D23 indicated that Disney has reprioritised the Avatar project, effectively putting it behind the Tomorrowland work. The Avatar concept has not simply been erased from Disney’s long-term plans, but its future timing is now considerably less certain.

For Disneyland fans, this is particularly important because the future of Hollywood Land and the popular Monsters, Inc. attraction remains tied to what ultimately happens with the Avatar proposal.

Disneyland’s future is becoming clearer, but there are still plenty of questions

D23 2026 did not answer every question about Disneyland Resort. In fact, several of the biggest projects still do not have opening dates.

Coco has no announced opening year. The Tomorrowland transformation has no announced construction schedule or attraction lineup. The Avatar project is now surrounded by greater uncertainty. And although the Avengers Campus expansion has a 2028 target, Disney still has plenty of details to reveal about exactly how the finished area will look and operate.

But compared with previous years, the direction is becoming much easier to see. Disney California Adventure is moving towards a future built around major Pixar and Marvel additions. The Coco attraction will bring a new family-focused ride to the park, while Avengers Campus is set to become significantly larger.

Disneyland Park, meanwhile, is preparing for one of its most consequential land transformations in decades as Tomorrowland is reimagined. And between those major construction projects, Disneyland Resort is bringing back some of its most beloved entertainment, with “Remember… Dreams Come True,” “World of Color” and “Magic Happens” all returning during 2027. That combination of nostalgia and expansion may ultimately be the defining theme of Disneyland Resort’s post-D23 future.

Disney is not simply looking to add more attractions. It is attempting to decide what Disneyland should feel like in the next decade while also restoring some of the experiences that longtime fans have been asking to see again.

For Anaheim, the next few years could therefore be among the most transformative in Disneyland Resort history.

D23 2026 may not have given fans every answer, but it finally gave us a much better idea of where Disney is heading. And if the announcements are any indication, there is a lot more on the horizon.
