Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon has officially closed for its annual seasonal refurbishment, marking the end of the 2026 summer operating season for the popular Walt Disney World water park.
The closure took effect on 9th September 2026, following the park’s final operating day on 8th September. The seasonal shutdown allows Disney to carry out maintenance and refurbishment work across the park ahead of its eventual reopening.
Typhoon Lagoon is one of two water parks at Walt Disney World Resort and has operated with periodic seasonal closures for maintenance since opening in 1989. Its tropical setting, centred around the wrecked fishing boat Miss Tilly atop Mount Mayday, has made it one of the resort’s most recognisable attractions.
During its operating season, guests can experience attractions including the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, Castaway Creek, Crush ’n’ Gusher, Miss Adventure Falls, Humunga Kowabunga and the Storm Slides. The park also features extensive sandy beaches, children’s play areas and a selection of food and beverage locations.
The annual refurbishment is an important part of keeping the water park’s extensive collection of slides, pools, landscaping and guest facilities in operation. Typhoon Lagoon has become a major part of Walt Disney World’s offering since opening on 1st June 1989. Its signature wave pool is among its biggest draws, while the park’s elaborate storm-ravaged tropical theme distinguishes it from the more winter-inspired setting of Blizzard Beach.
