For millions of guests visiting Walt Disney World, the sound of the monorail doors closing and the familiar safety announcement became part of the magic itself. That iconic voice belonged to Tom Kane, whose passing at the age of 64 has prompted an outpouring of tributes from Disney and animation fans around the world.
Kane passed away on 18th May 2026 in Kansas City following complications related to a stroke he suffered in 2020. His death marked the loss of one of the most recognisable voice talents in modern animation and themed entertainment.
Disney fans knew Kane best as the voice of the Walt Disney World Monorail system, a role he began in 2012. Since then, his calm and welcoming narration became inseparable from the resort experience itself. Whether guests were arriving at the Magic Kingdom for the first time or returning for another family holiday, Kane’s voice often signalled the beginning of a memorable day.
He also served as the narrator for “Happily Ever After,” the beloved nighttime spectacular at the Magic Kingdom. His emotionally charged narration helped transform the fireworks show into one of Disney’s most celebrated entertainment experiences. Fans across social media described his performances as “core memories” and an essential part of their connection to Walt Disney World.
Outside Disney Parks, Kane built an extraordinary career spanning decades in animation, television, film, and video games. He was perhaps most famous for voicing Yoda in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, along with numerous other characters throughout the Star Wars franchise. His résumé also included memorable performances in The Powerpuff Girls, Kim Possible, Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends, and The Wild Thornberrys.
Following his stroke in late 2020, Kane largely stepped away from public life and officially retired from voice acting in 2021. Despite severe speech difficulties caused by the stroke, fans continued to celebrate his work and legacy.
In many ways, Tom Kane’s work became woven into the emotional soundtrack of childhoods, holidays, and beloved stories. His voice welcomed guests onto monorails, introduced magical fireworks finales, and brought legendary characters to life across generations.
For Disney fans especially, his performances were never simply background narration. They became part of the atmosphere, part of the anticipation, and part of the memories that made the parks feel special.
Although the voice has now fallen silent, Tom Kane’s legacy will continue to echo through the worlds he helped create.
