The Walt Disney Company is bringing back one of its most recognisable educational programmes, as Disney Wild About Safety returns with a refreshed look and renewed focus on family-friendly safety awareness across Disney destinations worldwide.
Originally launched in 2003, the initiative used beloved characters Timon and Pumbaa from Disney’s The Lion King to teach children practical safety lessons through videos, posters, activity books, and park-wide messaging. Over the years, the programme became a familiar part of the guest experience at Disney parks, resorts, and cruise ships.
According to reports from WDWMagic, the newly updated version introduces redesigned character artwork, revised educational materials, and enhanced visual storytelling aimed at modern audiences. Disney says the refreshed campaign is designed to better connect with families while continuing to promote important safety habits in an engaging and memorable way.
The revival also marks a renewed collaboration between Disney Experiences and FM, the insurance company that has worked with Disney for decades. Disney executives say the partnership will help expand the programme’s reach while reinforcing safety messaging both inside Disney destinations and at home.
Greg Hale, Vice President and Chief Safety Officer at Disney Experiences, said the company is excited to relaunch the initiative with updated content and broader visibility for guests around the world. FM Chief Operating Officer Randy Hodge added that the collaboration supports Disney’s mission to make safety education accessible and enjoyable for families.
The original Wild About Safety campaign included a wide range of educational shorts covering subjects such as fire safety, water safety, online behaviour, travel safety, and healthy living. Many of these materials appeared in Disney hotels, theme parks, and educational outreach programmes internationally.
While Disney has not yet announced the full rollout schedule for the refreshed initiative, early promotional material suggests the campaign will once again feature prominently across Disney Experiences properties, including theme parks and cruise operations.
The return of Timon and Pumbaa in a safety-focused role also reflects Disney’s continuing strategy of using familiar characters to communicate educational messages in ways that resonate with younger audiences. For many longtime Disney fans, the relaunch brings back a nostalgic programme that quietly became part of the parks experience for more than two decades.
