Opening Date Confirmed for The Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Disney has officially confirmed that The Magic of Disney Animation will open on 14th September 2026 at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, marking the next major milestone in the transformation of the park’s reimagined animation district.

The long-awaited attraction will celebrate the artistry, imagination and storytelling behind Walt Disney Animation Studios, offering guests an immersive journey through the creative process while bringing beloved animated characters to life in new ways. The experience occupies the former Star Wars Launch Bay building, which has been completely reimagined to resemble the iconic Roy E. Disney Animation Building in Burbank, California.

Visitors will discover a series of interactive experiences inspired by Disney animation. One of the headline attractions is “Olaf Draws!”, where a new Audio-Animatronics version of Olaf, voiced by Josh Gad, teaches guests how to draw Disney characters through rotating animation lessons created by Disney artists.

The attraction will also feature “Off the Page!”, where animated worlds appear to come to life with character encounters and interactive displays, alongside the “Once Upon A Studio Theater”, inspired by the acclaimed animated short that celebrates more than a century of Disney animation. Guests can also explore “Drawn to Wonderland”, an imaginative play area influenced by Mary Blair’s concept artwork for Alice in Wonderland.

Disney describes the experience as both a tribute to the legacy of Walt Disney Animation Studios and an opportunity for guests of all ages to discover how animated films are created, blending classic storytelling with modern interactive technology.

The return of The Magic of Disney Animation is particularly significant for long-time Walt Disney World fans. The original attraction was a staple of Disney-MGM Studios and later Disney’s Hollywood Studios from the park’s opening in 1989 until its closure in 2015, when the space was converted into Star Wars Launch Bay. Its revival represents a return to the park’s animation heritage while introducing an entirely new experience for today’s guests.

With an opening date now set for 14th September 2026, Disney has completed the timeline for one of the most anticipated additions to Disney’s Hollywood Studios this year. Guests visiting this autumn will be among the first to step inside the new animation-inspired destination and experience Disney storytelling from the perspective of the artists who bring it to life.
