A major transformation is now underway at Hong Kong Disneyland, as demolition work has officially begun to make way for a brand-new Marvel attraction—a Spider-Man-themed drop tower inspired by the iconic Tower of Terror ride system.
The construction activity marks a significant milestone in the park’s long-developing Marvel expansion, signalling that the project has finally moved beyond years of planning and into active development.
Visible Changes in Tomorrowland
Guests visiting Tomorrowland can already see clear signs of progress. Large grey construction walls and tarps now stretch across a section of the land, running from the Space Traders shop near Space Mountain to the Expo Shop. These barriers conceal the ongoing demolition of the Tomorrowland Stage and the nearby NRG POD snack kiosk.
The walls are themed with Stark Expo branding, hinting at the future Marvel-focused environment while keeping the construction work hidden from view. Behind them, cranes and construction vehicles have been spotted, indicating that heavy work is already in progress.
A Long Time Coming
This project has been years in the making. The Marvel-themed Stark Expo area was first announced in 2016 as part of a wider overhaul of Tomorrowland. Since then, the park has introduced attractions such as Iron Man Experience in 2017 and Ant-Man and The Wasp: Nano Battle! in 2019.
Originally, the next phase of expansion was expected to include an Avengers Quinjet attraction. However, after delays and a lack of updates, Disney shifted direction and replaced the concept with a new Spider-Man ride.
What the New Attraction Will Be
The upcoming ride will be a Tower of Terror-style drop tower, bringing one of Disney’s most thrilling ride systems into the Marvel universe. While Spider-Man will take centre stage, the attraction is expected to feature additional Marvel characters, expanding the storytelling potential.
Although specific plot details remain under wraps, concept art suggests a high-energy experience tied to the Stark Expo storyline, blending superhero action with the suspenseful vertical drops the ride type is known for.
Why This Matters
The start of demolition is more than just construction progress—it represents a turning point for a project that has faced multiple delays and creative changes over nearly a decade.
For Hong Kong Disneyland, this new attraction will further strengthen its Marvel offerings and continue the park’s evolution into a unique destination within Disney’s global portfolio. For fans, it’s a clear sign that one of the resort’s most anticipated additions is finally becoming a reality.
With the groundwork now underway, attention will turn to how quickly the site transforms—and when guests might finally get to experience this Marvel-inspired thrill ride for themselves.
