A beloved piece of Pixar storytelling is set to take flight in a brand-new way, as Up inspires an all-new attraction at Disneyland Paris. Recently revealed details highlight how the iconic home of Carl and Ellie will become a central visual and thematic element in what is being described as the first-ever ride themed entirely to the film.
The attraction will be located within the newly reimagined Disney Adventure World, a park-wide transformation that marks a new era for the resort. Designed as a family-friendly swing ride, the experience draws inspiration from classic European amusement parks, blending nostalgia with Disney storytelling.
At the heart of the ride’s design is a rotating canopy structure, crowned with a detailed recreation of Carl and Ellie’s house—the floating home made famous by its cluster of colourful balloons. This visual centrepiece is not just decorative; it symbolises the spirit of adventure that defines the film, while the ride’s motion aims to simulate the sensation of flight.
The attraction’s aesthetic leans heavily into Art Nouveau influences, tying the story to the early days of aviation. Intricate ironwork will feature characters such as Carl, Russell, Dug, and Kevin, alongside balloon motifs woven throughout the structure. Even the base of the ride contributes to the atmosphere, incorporating a fairground organ to give the experience a whimsical, vintage soundscape.
Guests will board one of 64 rattan-style swing seats, arranged in both single and double configurations, offering a gentle but dynamic ride suitable for a wide audience. Surrounding the attraction will be landscaped gardens, subtly referencing Carl and Ellie’s shared history and love of exploration, while also fitting into the wider design of the park’s “Adventure Way” area.
The storytelling begins long before riders take to the air. The queue itself will be divided into four themed zones, each reflecting a stage of adventure. Guests will first encounter mementos from Carl and Ellie’s childhood, including their iconic adventure book. From there, the journey moves into themes of global exploration and achievement, culminating in a balloon-filled finale that transitions seamlessly into the ride experience.
