Construction is swinging ahead at Shanghai Disneyland, as Disney has revealed the first glimpse of ride track for its upcoming Spider-Man roller coaster — a major new attraction set to anchor the park’s future Marvel-themed land.
A Major Milestone in Construction
On 1st April 2026, Shanghai Disney Resort shared the first official image of the coaster’s track installation. The photo showcases a section of bright red track now in place, marking a significant step forward in the project’s development.
While track installation reportedly began earlier in 2026, this is the first time Disney has publicly shown progress, signalling that the attraction is moving from structural groundwork into more recognisable ride construction.
The First Marvel Thrill Ride in the Park
The Spider-Man coaster will be the centrepiece of a brand-new Marvel-themed land — the first of its kind at Shanghai Disneyland. This expansion represents the park’s ninth themed area and continues its rapid growth since opening in 2016.
Announced during the 2024 D23 fan event, the attraction is described as a high-speed adventure where guests will follow Peter Parker through a chaotic situation, racing to escape danger alongside the iconic web-slinger.
Although Disney has kept specific ride details under wraps, it is expected to be a high-energy thrill coaster, aligning with the company’s recent push toward more dynamic, story-driven attractions.
From Groundbreaking to Track Installation
The Spider-Man land officially broke ground on 19th May 2025, with construction progressing steadily since.
Key milestones so far include:
- Late 2025: Vertical construction began, with steel supports rising across the site
- Early 2026: Track installation commenced
- April 2026: First official look at the installed coaster track
The land is being built adjacent to the park’s Zootopia area and will include not just the coaster, but also themed dining, shopping, and entertainment experiences designed to immerse guests in Spider-Man’s world.
Looking Ahead
While no official opening date has been announced, industry expectations point toward a debut in the latter half of 2027.
Once completed, the Spider-Man coaster will mark a major milestone for Shanghai Disneyland, introducing its first large-scale Marvel attraction and further expanding Disney’s global superhero presence.
As construction continues, this first glimpse of track offers an exciting preview of what promises to be one of the park’s most thrilling additions yet.
