Disney’s Animal Kingdom to Host Extended Evening Hours in May 2026

Walt Disney World Resort is shaking up its park hours schedule this spring, giving deluxe resort guests a rare opportunity to enjoy extra time at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park after normal closing on Monday, 4th May 2026. Traditionally reserved for parks like Magic Kingdom and EPCOT, this special evening extension is noteworthy simply because Animal Kingdom doesn’t usually offer it.

Extended Evening Hours is a perk granted exclusively to guests staying at Disney Deluxe Resorts, Disney Deluxe Villa Resorts, and certain partner hotels. These guests are able to stay inside selected theme parks for two hours beyond the park’s official closing time on specific dates. In this case, Animal Kingdom will stay open from 6 pm until 8 pm, allowing eligible visitors to enjoy attractions with far lighter crowds than daytime operations.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom usually wraps up earlier than the other parks due to its unique mix of live animal exhibits and attractions. That’s part of why this spring evening extension feels special: the park atmosphere changes dramatically as the sun sets, and spaces like Pandora — The World of Avatar take on a magical glow as bioluminescent lighting comes alive, creating a very different experience from regular operating hours.

During this extra evening window, guests can experience some of the park’s most popular rides without the typical long waits. Confirmed attractions that will operate include Avatar Flight of Passage, Expedition Everest – Legend of the Forbidden Mountain, Na’vi River Journey, and Zootopia: Better Zoogether!. These are the kinds of headliners that can easily have long lines during regular hours, so lower waits can make this a very productive couple of hours for eligible visitors.

It’s worth noting that as of the most recent update, May 4th is the only date currently listed on the published calendar for this extended evening benefit at Animal Kingdom. Disney typically releases park hours about a couple of months in advance, so additional dates throughout May may be added as the calendar continues to roll out. Guests who have trips planned later in the month may want to keep checking the official My Disney Experience app or website for updates.

For deluxe resort guests, this kind of extended access represents more than just extra time; it’s a strategic advantage for completing popular experiences with fewer crowds, especially during busy travel seasons. Whether you’re chasing the thrill of Flight of Passage or soaking in the atmosphere of Pandora after dark, those extra park hours can turn an already magical visit into something that feels truly special.
