In a big moment for theme park fans and Pokémon trainers alike, Universal Studios Japan has revealed plans for a brand-new, immersive Pokémon attraction that promises to bring the world of Pokémon to life like never before. The announcement, made on 22nd January 2026, marks a significant expansion of the collaboration between Universal and The Pokémon Company, one that will start in Osaka and eventually reach Universal parks around the world.
The experience is being billed as a highly interactive, multi-sensory adventure designed to engage all five senses and transport guests into the imaginative universe of Pokémon in a way that goes beyond traditional park rides and shows. While specific details about the attraction’s scenes, technology and storyline are still under wraps, Universal and Pokémon have teased that more information will follow in the coming months.
According to Mark Woodbury, Chairman and CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, the partnership with The Pokémon Company — which began in 2021 — has already brought plenty of fan-favourite entertainment to parks through themed parades and live shows. This new project builds on that foundation, with the goal of creating something “incredible” and “beyond guests’ expectations”.
For The Pokémon Company, the timing of this project is especially meaningful. The franchise is celebrating its 30th anniversary in 2026, and President and CEO Tsunekazu Ishihara described the initiative as a way to continue surprising fans by offering real-world entertainment experiences that complement Pokémon’s success across games, animation and merchandise.
Although Japan will be the first destination to receive the new attraction, Universal has confirmed plans to expand Pokémon experiences to its parks globally. This means that locations such as Universal Orlando in Florida, Universal Studios Hollywood in California, and others in Asia and beyond could see similar immersive experiences in future years — though no specific timelines or park announcements have yet been released.
The partnership between Universal and Pokémon has grown incrementally over the past few years. What began with smaller collaborations has now blossomed into a full-blown attraction concept with global potential. Fans should stay tuned for further updates as Universal and The Pokémon Company share more about what’s in store.
