Disneyland’s immersive Star Wars land, Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, is about to undergo its most ambitious storytelling evolution yet. Starting on 29th April 2026, the timeline of the Black Spire Outpost on the remote planet Batuu will widen to include stories and characters from a broader range of eras in the Star Wars saga. This marks the first time the land will regularly feature major figures from the original trilogy alongside familiar heroes from more recent tales.
Since its opening in 2019, Galaxy’s Edge has primarily been anchored in the Age of Resistance, the period between The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker. While characters tied to The Mandalorian and other recent series have appeared, classic figures from the Galactic Civil War era were absent as regular roamers — until now.
At the heart of this expansion is Darth Vader. The Sith Lord himself will patrol Black Spire Outpost with Imperial Stormtroopers, driven by a narrative quest to find Luke Skywalker. This will be a dramatic visual shift for guests, placing perhaps the most iconic villain in cinematic history at the centre of the land’s experience.
Alongside Vader, other beloved heroes will appear in contextually rich roles. Luke Skywalker will be found wandering the outpost in pursuit of knowledge about the Force, lightsabers and kyber crystals, while Leia Organa will be recruiting help near the Millennium Falcon. Han Solo is expected to be seen around his famed freighter, occasionally dropping by Oga’s Cantina for a drink.
This expanded timeline doesn’t just add characters; it changes the way the land feels. John Williams’ iconic Star Wars scores, including main themes and character motifs from the original films, will be woven throughout Galaxy’s Edge, replacing the ambient soundscapes that previously underscored the Outpost. Music like “Cantina Band” will keep its place in Oga’s Cantina, while classic themes play more broadly across the land.
Retail and thematic spaces will also reflect this broader chronological canvas. First Order Cargo will be reimagined as Black Spire Surplus, offering artefacts from both the Rebel Alliance and Imperial forces that echo the Galactic Civil War. Dok-Ondar’s Den of Antiquities will showcase a rotating array of relics from different periods, and the Droid Depot will feature earlier generations of BB-series droids.
Despite this significant shift, Galaxy’s Edge will not abandon its newer era entirely. Characters such as Rey, The Mandalorian and Grogu will continue to appear in their respective zones — ensuring that diverse chapters of the Star Wars saga coexist in the Outpost.
The result is a version of Galaxy’s Edge that both celebrates the nostalgia of the classic films and preserves the dynamic, evolving storytelling unique to the land. For visitors and fans alike, April 2026 promises a fresh way to revisit a galaxy far, far away.
