Walt Disney World is introducing a permanent change to transportation access from Disney Springs, with non-resort guests soon no longer able to use certain resort-bound buses and watercraft without a valid reason to visit a Disney Resort hotel.

The new policy will require guests travelling from Disney Springs to resort destinations to verify their eligibility before boarding. The change is expected to begin on 28th June 2026 and will remain in place permanently following previous testing periods during busy travel seasons.

Under the updated system, guests will need to show proof of a qualifying reservation or booking before accessing resort transportation. This includes an active Walt Disney World Resort hotel reservation, a confirmed dining reservation at a resort hotel, or a confirmed recreation experience such as a specialty cruise.

The restriction will apply not only to Disney Springs bus routes heading to resorts but also to the Disney Springs watercraft service connecting guests with select nearby resorts, including Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney’s Old Key West Resort, and Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort & Spa, including the Treehouse Villas.

Disney has reportedly been testing guest verification at Disney Springs during peak periods, including around New Year’s and Easter. The system was introduced to manage transportation demand and reduce the number of guests using resort transportation without staying at a Disney hotel or having a specific reservation.

For many visitors, the change will affect the long-standing tradition of “resort hopping”, where guests visit different Disney hotels to explore them, dine, shop, or enjoy the atmosphere without staying overnight. While guests with dining or activity reservations will still have access, casual visits using Disney Springs transportation may become more difficult.

The rule also addresses a commonly discussed workaround where some guests parked at Disney Springs and used complimentary Disney transportation to reach other areas of Walt Disney World without paying for theme park parking. Limiting access is expected to help keep transportation capacity available for resort guests and visitors with resort-related plans.

Guests who still want to visit Disney Resort hotels without staying overnight may need to plan ahead by booking dining reservations or other eligible experiences. The change marks a shift in how Disney manages access to its complimentary transportation network, placing more emphasis on prioritising guests with direct resort connections.
