Guests hoping to experience one of Magic Kingdom’s most sought-after lounges may soon have a little more flexibility when booking a visit.

Disney appears to be testing a new walk-up waitlist option for The Beak and Barrel, the Pirates of the Caribbean-themed tavern in Adventureland. A new “Join Walk-Up List” button recently appeared within the My Disney Experience app, signalling that Disney could be preparing to expand access beyond advance dining reservations.

A Potential Alternative to Advance Reservations

Since opening, The Beak and Barrel has been one of the most difficult dining experiences to secure at Walt Disney World. Reservations regularly disappear shortly after becoming available, leaving many guests unable to visit unless they planned their holiday months in advance.

The appearance of a walk-up list suggests Disney may be exploring an additional way for guests to experience the venue, particularly if last-minute availability opens up throughout the day.

At the time the feature was first spotted, however, selecting the new button did not allow guests to join a queue. Instead, the app returned an error message, indicating the functionality had not yet been activated or was still undergoing testing. Disney had not officially announced the feature when it appeared.

Similar Change Appears for GEO-82

The Beak and Barrel was not the only location to receive the apparent update.

A matching “Join Walk-Up List” option also appeared for GEO-82, the popular Spaceship Earth lounge at EPCOT. Like The Beak and Barrel, GEO-82 has relied almost exclusively on advance reservations since opening, making both venues among the hardest dining locations to book at Walt Disney World.

The simultaneous appearance of the feature at both lounges suggests Disney may be evaluating a broader rollout of walk-up availability for premium lounge experiences.

Why a Walk-Up List Matters

Walk-up waitlists have become commonplace across many Walt Disney World restaurants, allowing guests already inside the parks to request same-day seating without holding a reservation.

Introducing the system at The Beak and Barrel would offer several advantages:

• Greater flexibility for guests unable to secure reservations 60 days in advance.
• Better utilisation of tables created by cancellations or no-shows.
• An opportunity for spontaneous visits during quieter periods of the day.

It’s important to note that a walk-up list does not guarantee entry. Availability is entirely dependent on restaurant capacity, reservation demand and operational considerations.

Demand Has Remained High

Since debuting in Adventureland, The Beak and Barrel has quickly become one of Magic Kingdom’s signature dining experiences.

The immersive pirate-themed lounge, inspired by the world of Pirates of the Caribbean, combines detailed storytelling with themed cocktails, non-alcoholic speciality drinks and shareable menu items. Its relatively limited seating capacity has contributed to consistently high demand.

As a result, even if a walk-up option becomes fully operational, guests should expect availability to fluctuate based on crowd levels and reservation fulfilment.

An Early Test Rather Than a Full Launch

The appearance of the new app button appears to represent an early operational test rather than an officially launched feature.

Disney frequently introduces backend changes or limited app functionality before announcing new guest offerings. Until the company confirms the feature, guests should continue to rely on Advance Dining Reservations as the primary method of securing a visit to The Beak and Barrel.

Those visiting Magic Kingdom may still wish to check the My Disney Experience app during their day in the park, as Disney could activate the feature without significant advance notice.

Shortly after the feature was first spotted, Disney removed the walk-up list option from both The Beak and Barrel and GEO-82 within the My Disney Experience app. Walt Disney World later confirmed the feature had been temporarily paused, with advance dining reservations remaining the primary way to access both lounges for now. Disney has indicated that further updates will be shared if or when the walk-up option returns.
