Disney California Adventure’s beloved interactive ride Toy Story Midway Mania! is scheduled to close early this spring for a significant refurbishment, marking one of the notable changes coming to the Disneyland Resort in 2026. According to the official Disneyland calendar, the attraction will cease operations on 6th April 2026, with no reopening date yet announced.
For nearly two decades, this carnival-style 4D game has delighted park guests by letting them compete in Toy Story-inspired midway challenges while wearing 3D glasses and firing virtual rings, darts, and paintballs at animated targets. Its location in Pixar Pier, a reimagined area of Disney California Adventure that celebrates Pixar’s colourful characters and stories, has made it a favourite with families and fans alike.
The last major update to the ride came in May 2025, when new holographic sticker targets and festive graphics were added as part of Disneyland Resort’s 70th celebration. Those anniversary enhancements are currently scheduled to remain through 9th August 2026, even though the ride will be closed for refurbishment from April.
Disney hasn’t provided details on the scope of work planned, nor offered a timeline for when Midway Mania will reopen. The lack of a specified end date leaves visitors planning trips in a bit of limbo, as it’s unclear whether the attraction will be back in time for peak summer crowds or significant park milestones.
There’s speculation among Disney watchers that the refurbishment could tie into the release of Toy Story 5, which is set to premiere in cinemas later in the year. A refresh of the ride tied to the new film would make narrative and marketing sense, though no official confirmation has been made.
Even while Midway Mania is offline, other staples of Pixar Pier such as the Incredicoaster and Pixar Pal-A-Round are expected to continue operating, giving guests plenty of thrills to enjoy on the pier.
