Universal Orlando Resort has confirmed a major new thrill ride for Universal Studios Florida: Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, an outdoor roller coaster inspired by the blockbuster film franchise. The coaster is scheduled to open in 2027, marking the next chapter in the park’s evolution of high-speed attractions.

Built on the former site of the Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit coaster — which closed in August 2025 after nearly 16 years in operation — the new Hollywood Drift promises a far more immersive and dynamic experience for guests.

Riders will be launched into a high-octane adventure inspired by the Fast & Furious movies, featuring 360-degree drifting manoeuvres and a dramatic vertical spike reaching 170 ft — roughly equivalent to 17 stories above ground — that will soar over the outskirts of Universal CityWalk.

In contrast to the former Rip Ride Rockit, which was known for its music-choice feature and soaring profile, Hollywood Drift is designed around the theme of controlled drifting and cinematic stunt-style motion. This shift in ride design aligns with Universal’s broader strategy of incorporating beloved film franchises into their most thrilling attractions.

The introduction of Hollywood Drift also affects the park’s existing Fast & Furious offering. Fast & Furious: Supercharged, a motion-based dark ride that has been part of Universal Studios Florida since 2018, is slated to close permanently in 2027 as part of the transition to the new coaster.

Universal Studios Hollywood is also preparing its own version of Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, set to debut earlier, giving fans on the west coast a first taste of the ride’s high-energy concept.

With this announcement, Universal Orlando continues to expand and refresh its roster of headlining attractions, joining other standout coasters and immersive experiences throughout the resort.
